The Connection Club Newsletter
October 2026
Greetings members! October is my favorite month. We get to enjoy cooler weather, changing leaves and pumpkins! What could be better? This month we have some great activities to enjoy, we hope you will find something that interests you.
Before I tell you about this month's highlights, I have an important request. Nominations for the 2027 Board of Directors are open; the slate will be voted on at the November 3 general meeting. If we cannot fill the Vice President and Secretary positions, the club may not be able to continue - so please, consider joining the Board - it is a great way to form deeper relationships in the club and help shape our future. We currently have the following positions available:
Vice President (assists the board as needed, step into President role in 2028)
Secretary (attends monthly board meetings to take minutes)
Events Coordinator (plans a luncheon and two dinners)
Publicity (prepares and submits articles for Rossmoor News)
Program Coordinator (helps find speakers for monthly meetings)
None of these positions acts alone. Our board helps with the planning and provides support as needed. If you have interest in any of these positions, or would like to co-chair a position with a friend, please reach out to Jan Klein at iamjanklein@gmail.com. The club can only host our activities if we have a team that works to make it happen. You can be part of that team!
Now, on to the fun stuff! You do not want to miss our monthly meeting on October 6 at 7:00 PM in the Donner Room. This month we will host Janja Lalich, a foremost expert on cults. Janja, a former cult member herself, has been studying cults since the 1980s and has provided help to survivors, families and friends who have been touched by a cult in some way. Please plan to attend this event and connect with friends, both old and new.
For those of you who enjoy reading books, but don't want to meet every month, we will be having a Book Discussion on October 27 at 11:00 AM in Multipurpose Room 3 at the Gateway Clubhouse to discuss the book, “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt. This book, which was made into a heartwarming movie, adds a deep perspective on heartbreak and healing and is a joy to read. If you are interested in attending this discussion, mark your calendar and plan to join us.
If you would like to join an existing book club, the 2nd Monday book club which meets in the Bunker Room has 2 or 3 openings. Anyone interested should contact Marcia Montgomery at mzmontgomery@yahoo.com.

4 PM in the Bunker Room-
This is an informal and fun way for ladies to get together to meet other women and build connections. This event is open to members and non members alike. Participants may go to the bar at the Golden Pear Restaurant to purchase a beverage or bring their own drink for an hour of conversation and friendship. Some participants may choose to go to dinner afterwards.

Tuesday, October 6 (First Tuesday): Monthly Meeting:
7 PM in the Donner Room in the Event Center-
The Connection Club will host Janja Lalich, a foremost expert on cults. When moving to Rossmoor, she thought she was retiring. But the Covid pandemic hit. Her emails exploded with people seeking help because of the cult-like movements rising up on the Internet. Relatives, friends and neighbors became QAnon followers or anti-VAXers as they looked for ways to hold onto safety in a world filled with turmoil. Janja will provide a brief presentation and have plenty of time for questions and answers. All Rossmoor residents are welcome to attend what is promising to be an exceptionally interesting presentation.

Gateway 1-3 PM. This is a drop-in group to play cards or other games. Often the game is hand and foot which is easy to learn and play. No experience is necessary. As the room is not dedicated to our club, look for the Connection group in the room. They usually sit by the windows.
*******Every Monday Walk and Talk:
