30th ANNIVERSARY PARTY - TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 2019

Social - 5:30 pm
Dinner - 6:00 pm

The Connection is celebrating its 30th anniversary as a Rossmoor club with a Potluck Dinner Tuesday, March 5th, at the Event Center. The doors will open at 5:30pm for the social where there will be drinks and appetizers. Dinner follows at 6:00pm. The club will provide roast chicken and beverages. Members will provide side dishes. See the reservations form for details. Reservations must be turned in by February 25th. Forms are available in the club’s mailbox at Gateway, on thiswebsite at www.rossmoorconnection.org, .

The Connection got its start in 1989 when two Rossmoor women, Joan Marx and Phyllis Wilson, met though the Rossmoor Department of Community Affairs. Both women had contacted the Department because they were new residents looking to find other women who enjoyed walking, biking and watching movies. The women put a notice in the Rossmoor News and were delighted when 25 women attended an organizational meeting. The group choose the name The Connection and began to plan activities.

The Connection currently has 244 members. On the first Tuesday of each month there is a general meeting that begins with a social followed by a short business meeting. A program featuring a speaker or a performance wraps up the evening.

The activity committee sponsors numerous groups covering a wide rangeof interests. Dining, book clubs, crafts, cards and games, movies and theater are just a few.

The purpose of The Connection is to provide for the women of Rossmoor a means of establishing friendship, promoting social and educational activities, and charitable outreach. For more information, check our website www.rossmoorconnection.org or call Karen McCallister at 925-300-3263.

PRESIDENT’S REMARKS FROM KAREN McCALLISTER

March will be the 30th Anniversary of The Connection club and a celebration of our Past Presidents. I’m very proud of all that the club has achieved in the last 30 years. The journey has been, I’m sure for members involved through the years, fun and exciting but also at times challenging. We have been so busy making friends, becoming involved in small groups, planning and attending meetings and dinners. We haven’t stopped to think that the club has been operating for thirty years.

Close your eyes and remember what you were doing and where you were 30 years ago. I know that my life has changed in the last 30 years, as I am sure yours has too. Thirty years is 10,957 days or 262,974 hours, which is truly amazing. We thank all of our Past Presidents for keeping such a wonderful club alive. I was reminded by a member that the 30th anniversary is represented by a pearl. I found this quote describing a pearl to be very moving:

A pearl is a beautiful thing that is produced by an injured life.
It is the tear that resulted from the injury of the oyster.
The treasure of our being in this world is also produced by an
injured life. If we had not been wounded, if we had not been
injured, then we will not produce the pearl.
